Muharram 1429

As-Salaamun Alaykum,

I would like to personally commend all the youths that were involved in making this year's Muharram program a success. Without all of you we would not have been able to run such a successful program, and the community is indebted to you all. I pray that we will all keep the message of Karbala and Imam al-Husayn's (as) sacrifice fresh within our hearts and keep contributing to our community.

Our program this year featured Sayed Mahdi Modarresi and Abbas Bandali, and we extend our thanks to both of them as well for contributing to our community and our program. They are always welcome with our youths and with the JIY and Insha’Allah they will be back soon.

It was great to see the unity displayed in all the different aspects of our program, from the first day to the last night, we as a youth entity have come a long way since last year and Insha’Allah we will continue on this upward trend of involvement, dedication and self-sacrifice.

Our rewards lie with Allah (swt) and only Him, and I pray that He gives us tawfiq in our efforts and contributions to this community and also to the society at large. I also pray that all our azadari be accepted insha’Allah during this Holy month, and I pray that all our efforts this Muharram are satisfactory to our Prophet Muhammad (saww), Imam al-Husayn (as), Imam al-Mahdi (atfs), their Ahlul Bayt (as), and ultimately I pray that all we have done and the little we have accomplished for His cause and his pleasure is satisfactory to Allah (swt), the Most Forgiving and the Most Merciful. May Allah (swt) forgive us all for any of our shortcomings that have fallen below His standards and expectations.

Was Salaam,

The New JIY Project Development Team (PDT) Executive Committee

As-Salaamun Alaykum,

A new era began on September 1, 2007 when the new Ja'ffari Islamic Youth Project Development Team (PDT) has been elected. Please allow me to introduce you to the new JIY Executive Committee for this term:

Director - Sameer Dattu

Assistant Director (Male) - Husein Ali
Assistant Director (Female) - Shaista Dharamsi

Public Relations & Marketing Officer – Fatemah Kanji
Public Relations & Marketing Officer - Zainab Esmail

Recruitment and Development Officer - Natasha Merali Financial Director - Shaan-e-Abbas Shamji

The new JIY team jumped right into planning events for this new term with the 9000 Bathurst Fair, in association with ISIJ of Toronto, which was a great success. We have much being planned but essentially we require your feedback so that we can provide and run events catered to the youths, who are the future of our tomorrow.

Some events to watch out for are: JIY Camp 2008, JIY Leadership Conference 2008, JIY Ziyarat trip to Mash'ad (Iran), Ramadhan Table Tennis Tournament (boys) and Dakhu Nights (girls), Muharram English Program, Q&A sessions with learned scholars, youth outreach programs, Toronto Raptors/Leafs/Jays sports outings (for both boys and girls), other sports such as Paintball, White Water Rafting, Bowling, etc. and many more events that are fun, enlightening and inspirational.

We look forward to working with the youths of our community and hearing from you in regards to future event ideas. We are also always looking for dedicated volunteers to assist in the planning and execution of the above mentioned events, as well as any and all other events to be run insh'Allah during this term.

Toronto is at a very crucial point, and the youths are truly at a crossroad. It is essential now more than ever, to give back to the community and foster unity, brotherhood/sisterhood, faith and love for the Ahlul Bayt (AS).

We have re-established JIY's open door policy, meaning that we are always available to the community at large. Feel free to ask us anything, get involved, or provide us with constructive feedback which we can use to better ourselves and our programming. Furthermore, I personally invite all youths to drop by the JIY Office located at 9000 Bathurst during our office hours on Sundays from 9am to 3pm to meet your new JIY PDT, or even just to spend some time and hang out.

We look forward to serving the community during this term with the help of the Almighty Allah (SWT) and through the blessings of Imam az-Zamaana (ATFS).

Was Salaam,
